History of Alands Accountants

At the end of World War II, Richard (Dick) William Aland, having returned from active service with the RAAF in England, studied accountancy part time at the University of Queensland. He qualified as an Associate in Accountancy of the University of Queensland in 1950. Dick worked in the Brisbane Gas Company before accepting an accountancy position in Mackay in mid 1950.  He left Mackay in July 1951 to accept a position in Dalby with an accountant named Eric Hockings.

Dick purchased Eric Hockings’ practice in 1954. Later he went into partnership with Jack Sinclair and Mick Battle until 1964, when he became a sole practitioner once again.

Brian Tucker started working for Dick Aland in October 1968. They formed a partnership, RW Aland & Co in 1973.  They acquired three further practices in Dalby from Mick Battle, Max Marlowe and Doug Basterfield.

Graham Aland worked in Brisbane and the United Kingdom before returning to Dalby. He was admitted to the partnership in 1979.

Dick retired from the partnership in 1989. He continued to work as a consultant for RW Aland & Co until 1992.

Brian Tucker and Graham Aland continued in partnership until October 1998, when Graham moved his family to Brisbane and started Alands Accountants.

Brian Tucker retired from the practice in December 2000. Today the firm RW Aland & Co still operates in Dalby with Michael Harth as the Principal.

The business of Alands Accountants operates from 293 Queen Street Brisbane. However the Dalby connection is there with monthly visits being made to our Dalby premises.

In October 2005, Alands Accountants amalgamated with Peter Heaslop Rural Accounting Services and expanded its services in rural Queensland.
